Chaeyeon's story

You became the 8th star of D-ICON.
I’m excited because we got to show another side of IZ*ONE. I think this is another opportunity to showcase other charms of IZ*ONE.

Whenever you release your albums, the members’ participation has seem to increase. How did you work on it?
I often use the memo app in my handphone. I move right away when lyrics pop up in my mind. I open my memo app and note the sentences that comes to mind when I think of WIZ*ONEs. Eunbi unnie sorted it out well.

Do you have any stories behind your work?
Eunbi unnie personally did the directing. Each composer has a different directing style. There are some who matches well with me, and there were difficult cases as well. Eunbi unnie’s directing fits me well.

What is your source of inspiration?
There are times where I mindlessly walk on the streets, and decent sentences comes up in my mind. There are also cases where I thought "To where shall I compare how I feel right now?”. Sometimes I just think of the topic and suddenly write it down.

Do you have any individual efforts you exert to developing your musical abilities?
There are some songs that makes me wonder, ‘How are they able to express it in such manner?’. There are also simple expressions (lyrics) that seems charming at the same time. During times like that, I felt that my lyrics were cliche and boring. I study through observing the lyrics of other people. It’s stimulating.

A music concept you would like to challenge?
I’m curious of our concept with a nostalgic feel.

Last February, ‘BLOOM*IZ’ reached about 350 thousand preorder sales. You have also recorded first place overall sales for Japan Tower Records, right?
I'm really thankful towards WIZ*ONEs. I was touched by the hearts of WIZ*ONEs who endlessly loves us. I would like to give them all the honour for this. Thank you for giving too much love to us who are still lacking.

If you were to set another goal?
My personal goal is to find the balance of my energy, while IZ*ONE’s goal is to meet many fans from all around the world.

What kind of singer do you aspire to be?
A singer that never forgets about gratitude and preciousness. Above all, I want to be a singer that knows myself well, and display my talents in various ways. I wish to deliver positive energy to many people.

What kind of synergy can 12 members create?
12 members, that alone is what makes the team shine brighter. If we prioritise oneself more than the team, it'll look noticeable whether it'd be during broadcasts, during our choreography and so on. We are all moving perfectly as one now. That is synergy.

When are the moments when you think having 12 people is better than being alone?
I laugh a lot more, because we're busy talking to each other. There are times where my thoughts gets complicated when I’m alone.

What kind of charms do you think you have not presented to the public?
I would like to talk about my resolution rather than charms. A singer who you can look forward to more than today? One that you could feel the thrill just by looking through the monitor.

If you were to express yourself in 5 syllables?
“An infinite discovery”. I believe it is up to me to create my own future as much as I discover myself, as much as I improve, as much as I dream, as much as I believe, and as much as I’m certain of myself. That is why I’m trying my best to live diligently every day.

How do you spend your resting day?
I write lyrics, take English lessons, practice and do self-management. I go back home to have homemade meals with my family and to see my puppies.

Do you have anything that you’re hooked on these days?
Choosing my menu carefully.

Pick one thing that you must do every night before you go to bed? Besides using your smartphone!
I apply lots of moisturising cream.

If you were to live as someone else for a day, which member do you want to live as?
Saku-chan. After becoming Saku-chan, I want to delve myself into games. I’m curious on how it feels and it seems fun whenever I watch her play sometimes.

Your lifetime movie or drama?
It is ‘The Greatest Showman’(Directed by Michael Gracey). I really like the official soundtrack, ‘This is me’, that appeared in ‘The Greatest Showman’.

You are promoting in Korea and Japan, do you have any special episodes that happened?
There are times where I got confused whether I’m in the Korea or Japan airport in my sleep.

If you were given a one month holiday now?
I worked on a song with a composer, and recorded the guide myself. I felt that my vocal skills improved a little as I recorded the guide.

If you were given one month time?
I would like to improve by making songs and recording guides. As a bonus, I would like to eat homemade food cooked by my mom. (Laughs)

Something on your bucket list that you must achieve in 2020?
I want to have a second concert and meet WIZ*ONEs.

WIZ*ONEs who gifted me with many things, WIZ*ONEs who let me know the things I never knew before, WIZ*ONEs who made me stronger, WIZ*ONEs who cried and laughed together with us, though I’m still lacking a lot and clumsy, I will do my best in every aspect.
